National Library Day 2023 Observed in JUST
National Library Day 2023 has been celebrated at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) with various events including a procession to create awareness about the importance and dignity of libraries, to spread the interest and joy of reading books. This year's theme of the day was 'Smart Library, Smart Bangladesh.'
On the occasion of the day, Jashore University of Science and Technology Central Library organized a joyous procession today at 11 am. The procession started from in front of Michael Madhusudan Dutt Central Library cum Academic Building, went around Central Playground- Adamya' 71-Administrative Building and ended in front of Michael Madhusudan Dutt Central Library cum Academic Building. Later a short discussion meeting was organized there.
While speaking as the Chief Guest, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Technology of the University Dr. Md. Iqbal Kabir Zahid said, in addition to printed books, in this age of smart Bangladesh, students want to get library facilities through smart devices and are using them now. Various steps have been taken to make the Jashore University of Science and Technology library smart. Many published research papers have been converted to digital platforms. I would request the central library to publish the books which are not copyrighted on digital platform as soon as possible. Then the teachers and students of this university can use it in the field of study and research.
At the end of the discussion, Swapan Kumar Biswas, Librarian (current duty) of JUST thanked all of the participants. At this time, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of JUST, Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, chairman of the pharmacy department, Dr. Kishore Majumder, Director (Planning, Development and Works) Paritosh Kumar Biswas, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Department Mohammad Jaseem Uddin, Deputy Director (Finance) G. M. Deen Mohammad, Deputy Director (Accounts) Md. Abu Saim, Deputy Librarian Md. Jahangir Kabir, Assistant Director (Public Relations) Md. Abdur Rashid, Assistant Database Programmer S. M. Waliuzzaman, Section Officer Md. Tuhin Hossain along with teachers-students, officials and employees of various departments of the university were present. The discussion was conducted by the Deputy Director of the Central Library Md. Mehdi Hasan.
Since 2018, this day has been celebrated as National Library Day under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. In view of this, National Library Day 2023 was celebrated with due dignity under the initiative of Central Library of Jashore University of Science and Technology.
